Certification Process

Written Exam

  • In order to take the written exam, the participant must have attended the required number of classes, not just signed-up for the required number of classes. (Elementary – 9, Middle School – 6, High School – 3)
  • Download a study guide from below to study for written exam.
  • When the participant is ready to take the written exam, ask a pro shop attendant and they will assist you. If the participant does not pass (80% or better), they must wait one week before attempting the test again. (Written tests must be passed before the participant can proceed).
  • Once you have passed the written life skills test, you will need to sign up for a spot to take the golf skills portion of the test on Certification Day. The pro shop can assist you in person or you may call the pro shop at (619)-582-7884. Once you are on the list, be on the lookout for a confirmation email confirming your child’s spot for Certification Day.

    • *Please Note: An appointment time such as 3:30pm, means that your child should be present and ready to test at 3:30pm.Testing times vary widely, but we plan for 30-minute windows. In this case, if you show up at 4:00pm instead of 3:30pm, we may have a full slot and may not be able to test your child that day. So, we ask that you make every effort to be punctual as a courtesy to everyone trying to test that day

Certification Day

Skills Test

A summary of the requirements can be found on the “Golf & Life Skills Levels Chart” (found below). This happens primarily on Certification Day, but extenuating circumstances do occur and on occasion when time allows, portions of a golf skills test may be done on a non-certification day. These are judged on a case-by-case basis. *The one exception to this is the PAT, which is the last portion of the golf skills test and requires participants to shoot a specific score on a designated number of holes. The PAT must always be attempted on Certification Day. No written tests will be administered on Certification Day.

Once the PAT is passed then your child has officially Leveled UP! They will receive a new PK ID card that signifies their new status. They will also be eligible to sign-up for their new class the following month’s sign-ups. This means we ask they finish the current month in the same class they began the month in. It usually also means just one more class and it still provides them with structured feedback to improve their golf game.

**Special Note: A test attempt may be denied if the participant does not meet all requirements.**
